Amanda Wixted and Timothy FitzAmanda Wixted and Timothy Fitz chose the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Western Cape, South Africa, as the venue for their intimate wedding ceremony on February 19, 2014. In attendance were parents, Bo and Mimi Wixted, Steve and Laura Fitz, the bride’s brother, Brody, and the groom’s brother, Matt.
A musical duo from Cape Town, “Palm Strings,” played a spirited rendition of “The Final Countdown” as the bride and groom walked between rose petals and flickering candles in the luxurious ambience of the glass-walled Villa to recite their own vows. Amanda chose to read a quote from Carl Sagan, which closed with the line “The sum of all our evolution, our thinking and our accomplishments is love.”
The couple honeymooned at a private safari lodge, Hoyo Hoyo, in Kruger National Park and have continued their celebration with a series of “mini-moons” as they explore their new locale in Texas.
Amanda graduated from Dhahran School in 1997 and attended Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California, before completing her degree in Computer Science at the University of Arizona. Timothy attended high school in York, Pennsylvania, and later, the Rochester Institute of Technology. The couple is currently living in Austin, Texas, and working in technology fields so arcane as to be unintelligible to their parents, though they are happy.
Bo and Mimi Wixted worked in Dhahran and Ras Tanura from 1991 to 2012 and, now retired, split their time between South Africa and Tucson, Arizona, USA.
